How nada works

What is nada?
nada is for slow, mutual-consent meetings with people near you. No swipe pile, no like or follower counts, no audience. Two strangers, two yeses, one connection.
How do I actually meet someone?
Answer the weekly cohort question, browse other people's answers nearby, and send a vibe check on one that resonates. If both of you check yes, chat unlocks. No swipes, no likes, no follower counts.
What's the weekly question?
Every Monday, one thoughtful prompt drops for everyone in your cohort. Same prompt, same week, different answers — sit with it, answer when you're ready, and the answers tell you who's actually on your wavelength right now.
What does the verified badge mean?
The purple checkmark means the person passed a live face check on a real iPhone when they uploaded their selfie. Apple's on-device liveness check confirms a real face (not a photo of a photo or a generated image), and Apple App Attest cryptographically proves the submission came from a genuine iPhone bound to that account. It's not an identity check — no name, age, or government ID is verified.

Chat

Why does the app suggest a voice note for my first message?
While a direct chat has zero messages, the composer nudges you toward voice. The point is to let two people hear each other before they read each other — once anything has been sent, the hint goes away.
What's a pinned inquiry?
Either side of a chat can pin a single question — up to 280 characters — at the centre of the conversation. It stays pinned for 14 days, focusing the chat around it. When it expires, anyone can propose a new one.
What's a present observation?
A tight 10–140 character share inside a chat — a snapshot of where you are or what you're doing right now. It's a separate composer from a regular chat message, optimised for small noticings rather than back-and-forth.

Activities

What does the lock icon on an activity mean?
A lock means the activity is private. You request to join, and the host decides. Until then, the pin on the map is shown at an approximate location.
Why do private activities move on the map?
Private activities are shown at a fuzzed location within roughly 1 km of the real spot. The offset is stable for you across refreshes so the pin doesn't jitter, but different people see different offsets. Once the host accepts you, you'll see the true location.
Can I add an activity to my Apple Calendar?
Yes — tap the calendar action on an activity. nada uses iOS 17's write-only Calendar permission, so we can add events but never read your existing calendar. Reminders fire 1 hour and 1 day before the activity, but only if it's far enough out — anything sub-1-hour skips the 1-hour alarm, and anything sub-24-hour skips the day-before.

Privacy & data

Where is my data stored?
All data is stored exclusively in the EU — specifically Frankfurt (eu-central-1). We never transfer your personal data outside the European Union. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
How do I export my data?
In the app, go to Settings → Account → Export My Data. We stream a JSON archive covering your profile, connections, the chat messages you sent, vibe-check history, pinned inquiries, and activities. Article 15/20 of GDPR, end-to-end. If you'd rather have us send it, email hello@nada.bond.
What happens with old messages and photos?
Auto-delete clears messages and photos older than the window you pick in Settings. Pick a shorter window if you want less of your history retained — the change applies to your existing content too, on the next nightly sweep.
How do I report a user?
Tap the three-dot menu on any profile or message and select "Report". You can also email a description directly to hello@nada.bond. We review all reports and take action within 48 hours.
How do I exercise my GDPR rights?
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data at any time. The in-app Export and Delete actions cover the access and erasure rights directly. For anything else, email hello@nada.bond — we respond within 30 days. The supervisory authority for complaints is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA).

Account

How do I sign in?
Sign in with Apple, or with email + password — both are supported. Sign in with Apple is faster on a new device since there's nothing to remember.
What's a "quiet exit" — why did this connection disappear?
If a connection sees no messages from either side for 60 days, nada quietly releases it — neither party gets a notification, the conversation just falls out of the chat list. Silence already meant you weren't talking; we'd rather make that explicit than leave it cluttering both inboxes.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. We hide your profile immediately and start a 30-day soft-delete window; after 30 days the deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. You can also request deletion by email at hello@nada.bond.
What happens if I don't use the app for a long time?
To keep things tidy and protect your data, we automatically delete accounts that have been inactive for 12 months — profile, photos, videos, messages, all of it. Just sign in once a year to keep your account active.
How do I join the beta?
nada is available via TestFlight. Download the TestFlight app and use the invite link from our waitlist. No invite yet? Email us at hello@nada.bond.
Is nada free?
nada is free during the beta. No in-app purchases, no subscription, no advertising. We'll communicate clearly before any pricing model is introduced.
